Rolling with the Wind: My First Vendor Show in Years

Well, folks, my first vendor event in years sure was a memorable one—just not in the way I expected! I set up shop in Seguin, Texas, excited to meet new faces, share my western boho treasures, and get Songbird On the Wire out into the community. But sometimes, the best-laid plans don’t quite work out.

Gone with the Wind… Literally

The morning started with promise. My booth was set up, my display was looking good, and I was ready to chat with customers and tell the story behind my handcrafted and curated goods. But Texas had other plans.

The wind started kicking up, and before long, it was clear this wasn’t just a gentle breeze—it was the kind of gust that sends hats flying and tents tumbling. Vendors around me struggled to keep their setups intact. After a while, the event organizers made the call to shut things down early for safety. Just like that, my long-awaited return to the vendor world was over before it truly began. No sales, no connections made—just a whole lot of wind and a lesson in rolling with whatever life throws at you.

Lessons from the Dust

Even though the day didn’t go as planned, I walked away with some valuable takeaways.

• Vendor life is unpredictable. You can prepare all you want, but sometimes, the weather wins.
• I need stronger booth weights. My setup held up, but I’ll be making some improvements before the next event.
• Meeting people isn’t the only way to grow. While I love face-to-face interactions, I’ve got other ways to stay connected—and that brings me to my next exciting update.

• And more surprises… I’m always on the lookout for unique, high-quality products that fit the spirit of Songbird On the Wire. That being said, I have the big stitcher tuned up and I am ready to roll out some bags made of beautiful leather, deer and suede. Expect FRINGE!!!!

Still in the Saddle

One windy vendor show won’t slow me down. Whether it's through events, my online shop, or my new app, I’m determined to keep Songbird On the Wire rolling along.
