A Story of Grit and Grace: Reba’s Legacy and Handmade Treasures

In life, certain things hold a special place in our hearts—a  little red horse, a handcrafted piece, a quiet moment under a big, open sky. For me, this picture captures all those things in one simple, timeless frame.

The horse you see in the background is Reba, my sassy old mare through years of memories. She’s not just a horse; she’s a symbol of beauty and heart, and the ability to just keep going. Her spirit reminds me of the values I pour into every creation for Songbird On the Wire.

And that purse? I crafted it a few years back. It isn't anything fancy, more function than artistic style, but it has it's own sturdy charm—a nod to tradition, of creating something with your hands. I don’t make saddles anymore, but working with leather, canvas, and heavy textiles is a craft I still take pride in. From belts to handbags, every stitch tells a story of love for a way of life fading from view and appreciation for the simple beauty of functional art.

This image speaks to why I started Songbird On the Wire—to blend rugged, ranchy authenticity with a touch of shine and style. Whether it’s a handmade leather bag, a unique piece of jewelry, or a carefully curated gift box, my goal is always to connect with those who appreciate the grit and glimmer of life.

Reba might not be with me anymore, (she’s being loved on by two sweet girls in Idaho), but her influence runs deep. She reminds me that every piece I create should carry the same strength, grace, and well, sassiness she has.

If you feel the same connection to the West, to heritage, and to finding beauty in life’s simple treasures, I invite you to explore what Songbird On the Wire has to offer.

Until next time,
Barbara
